EARTH CAVITIES/SOIL
HORIZONS
The Vision
Two hand dug holes ‘cavities’ in two different locations in
the city with installation in a gallery space. The soil horizons will reveal
the biochemical record of the history of human disturbance and biological
regeneration specific to each site and give people a sensual point of entry
into the cosmos underfoot.
The Intervention
– Each earth cavity measures 2’ wide x 3’ deep x 4’ long and
is fitted with a wooden bench set into the walls.
– Benches are at a depth where people will be slightly above
or below soil horizon.
-The public is invited to enter the cavities to sit and
smell, feel, listen and look.
– Cavities will be refilled and sodded/seeded at projects’
end. The soil horizons will reveal
